Regarding the declaration of a national emergency by COVID-19, in June 2020 was published the Law No. 9866 about the Authorization for the Extension of Appointments of Boards of Directors and other organs in Civil Organizations which expires in the year 2020, so that this period will be automatically extended to the year 2021.
This law applies only to organizations that, as a direct consequence of the declaration of emergency by COVID-19 and the health measures issued by the Ministry of Health, have not been able or are unable to carry out the meeting that would allow the appointment of such approvals and appointments, proving that reasonable efforts have been made to carry them out.
Please find below the organizations which may be extended for up to an additional year, for appointments that expire after March 1, 2020 and which expire before December 31, 2020, also including those who must carry out structural renewal processes during said period:
It should be noted that this period could be extended for an additional period of up to 6 months, if determined by the Ministry of Health through an administrative resolution, in accordance with the epidemiological behavior of COVID-19 in Costa Rica.
This extension acts in its own right, and therefore does not require any registration or entry in the National Registry of the entities mentioned by this standard, in order to be valid and effective.
